Water Works B.E.S.T!

aquamotionfun

“Shortly after we began the new water aerobics with the emphasis on resistance, balance, cardio and flexibility, I had a scheduled lipid panel done with incredible results. Linda asked if I would be willing to share my experience.

I have had a lifetime of above average triglycerides (in the 200+ range and usually 250 range). On December 2nd my triglyceride level was 282.  On January 9, I registered a 159 point drop to 123. I have never had a normal reading ever.  I told my doctor of the differences between my usual water aerobics class and the new class and asked if that could have resulted from the exercise alone, since Dec 2 to Jan 6 isn’t exactly my eat-healthy month and I had only 1 week (plus a hike up Rubidoux under my belt).  His comment was, “Absolutely, people underestimate the importance of hard exercise on triglycerides.

Googling cardio and resistance training combined, and triglycerides, gives the result that combining cardio and resistance is generally considered the most effective way to lower triglyceride levels compared to either form of exercise alone.

By all means work with your doctor, but for those struggling with poor lipid panels this newer class just might be your ticket.  Feel free to stop and ask me about my experience. “

Russ Turner

Russ Turner's testimony is a powerful example of how water aerobics, particularly the new B.E.S.T. (Balance, Endurance, Strength, and Toning) class, can have significant positive impacts on health, especially for older adults. His experience highlights several key benefits of water-based resistance training:

Dramatic Improvement in Triglyceride Levels

Russ experienced an unprecedented drop in his triglyceride levels:

  • Before the new class: 282 (December 2nd)

  • After participating in the class: 123 (January 9th)

  • Total reduction: 159 points

This remarkable improvement occurred in just over a month, which is particularly noteworthy given that it included the holiday season, typically not associated with healthy eating habits1.

Effectiveness of Combined Cardio and Resistance Training

The B.E.S.T. class incorporates both cardiovascular exercise and resistance training, which research suggests is the most effective approach for lowering triglyceride levels1. This combination is more potent than either form of exercise alone in improving lipid profiles.

Benefits for Older Adults

The class addresses crucial aspects of fitness for individuals over 50:

  1. Muscle Preservation: Resistance training in water helps maintain muscle mass, which becomes increasingly challenging with age2.

  2. Low Impact: Water-based exercises are gentler on joints, making them ideal for older adults or those with joint issues3.

  3. Comprehensive Fitness: The class targets balance, endurance, strength, and toning, providing a well-rounded workout4.

Unique Advantages of Water Aerobics

  1. Increased Resistance: Water provides 12-14% more resistance than air, enhancing the effectiveness of exercises5.

  2. Calorie Burning: Water aerobics can burn 400-500 calories per hour, aiding in weight management6.

  3. Joint-Friendly: The buoyancy of water reduces body weight by about 90%, minimizing stress on bones, muscles, and joints6.

Russ Turner's experience underscores the potential of water aerobics, especially when combining cardio and resistance training, to significantly improve health markers like triglyceride levels. The B.E.S.T. class offers a comprehensive, low-impact workout that is particularly beneficial for older adults, addressing key aspects of fitness while being gentle on the body. This testimony serves as compelling evidence of the effectiveness of water-based exercise programs in improving overall health and managing specific health concerns like high triglycerides.
